Collection: Julie Simmons
Julie paints in oils, watercolour, pastels and mixed media. She has developed her own unique style and paints en plein air regularly.
As Julie says "painting outdoors is a crucial aspect of my work. It helps in developing shape and tone and consequently the subject is simplified with detail being kept to a minimum".
Julie says "the work hung in this exhibition is all painted en Plein air during my travels over the last few months. The locations were many and varied from Tuross Heads on the south coast, the country around Currububula and north to Yandina and surrounds on the Sunshine Coast and many places in between.
All of the works were finished 'in situ' because I feel the immediacy of the paint application is lost if one works on them in the studio.
Often I am out by myself but one of the joys of painting en Plein air is to share the experience with a group of artists where we can all learn from one another".
Julie has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Camberwell Rotary Art Prize, The Waterbrook Art Prize, the Ardency Art Prize, and the Scone Art Prize.
Julie's work is represented in numerous public, corporate and private collections. Julie is a Fellow of the Royal Art Society.
