This hand beaded embroidered collar has a central focal piece of a silk covered disc attached to a freshwater pearl in the most amazing shade of rose gold.
Most of the collars I make are inspired by a shape, or a theme. This one was inspired by the colours of deep, royal violet and deep, royal crimson, and how they intertwine.
The central focal is flanked on one side by a trio of handmade glass squares, by American artist Barbara Becker Simon. The other side has dichroic glass, Swarovski crystal and a large, oval polymer clay bead inspired by vintage coral.
The bottom of the collar falls into two points reminiscent of the collar of a business shirt. On one point, we have a piece of druzy agate, whilst the other has a teardrop carnelian with a cut out filled with dichroic glass. The collar also includes genuine faceted amethyst, freshwater pearls in an array of purples and lavenders, carnelian, jasper, resin, Swarovski crystals and amber.
The collar has two discs of dichroic glass attached to a hook and eye clasp for closure. It is an heirloom piece, all hand crafted, each bead individually stitched (or in the case of the central focal , glued) onto backing fabric. The entire piece is then backed with ultrasuede, which is a beautifully soft but resilient man-made fabric that does not fray. The clasp, chain and rings are all copper and or/ brass coated with black enamel.
